British Armed Forces Sites to House Refugee Applicants in Effort to Terminate Hotel Accommodation
Hundreds refugee applicants could be housed in defense installations as the authorities seeks to terminate the use of temporary lodging.
Discussions are in progress regarding the use of two facilities - a facility in the Scottish region and the other in the English south - for housing for 900 male individuals.
The PM has ordered Home Office and Defense Department representatives to accelerate initiatives to find proper defense facilities.
The government has committed to eliminate the use of refugee hotels, which have cost billions in funds and become a focal point for anti-asylum seeker rallies.
Planned Defense Sites
Migrants may be placed in the Cameron Barracks in the Scottish city and Crowborough military training facility in East Sussex by the end of next month.
Industrial sites, temporary accommodation and otherwise disused accommodation are also being reviewed for potential use.
Authorities Commitments
Administration officials confirmed that each location would meet safety regulations.
"We are extremely concerned at the extent of unauthorized immigrants and temporary hotel accommodations."
"This government will close every asylum hotel. Efforts are progressing effectively, with more suitable sites being brought forward to alleviate strain on resident populations and decrease asylum costs."
Present Shelter Figures
Approximately 32 thousand individuals seeking protection are presently being accommodated in temporary lodging, representing a decrease from a high point of more than 56,000 in the previous year.
A recent report found that substantial amounts of public funds had been "squandered" on migrant shelter.
Earlier Defense Site Utilization
Two former military sites - former RAF base in the eastern county and the Napier facility in Kent - are presently being operated to shelter asylum seekers after being opened under the previous administration.
The Prime Minister stated on the developments, saying: "The government is resolved to close each temporary accommodation facility. Words cannot describe how frustrated and angry the administration feels that we inherited a challenge as substantial as these developments by the former leadership."
